BlueGene and Business Optimization
William Pulleyblank, IBM Business Consulting Services
February 18, 2005

Abstract

BlueGene is a family of massively parallel supercomputers capable of performing unprecedented amounts of computation. We describe this system, its characteristics, and some early application successes. Exploiting this capability presents a broad range of challenges. Last fall, we announced the formation of a new business unit, called the Center for Business Optimization. We also discuss some of the challenges and opportunities that this will present in bringing optimization and business analytics capability to market as well as exploiting BlueGene level computational power.
