Mihir Kedia Honored for Undergraduate Research
December 1, 2006: The Computing Research Association today named Mihir Kedia as a Finalist for the 2007 Computing Research Association Outstanding Undergraduate Award. Mihir received this award for his work on Phetch and Verbosity, two "games with a purpose" that collect valuable data as a side effect of game play. The two papers he co-authored on these games were nominated for Best of CHI 2006, the premiere conference in human-computer interaction. ALADDIN Faculty Luis von Ahn Named to Popular Science "Brilliant 10" List
September 9, 2006: Assistant Professor Luis von Ahn is recognized as one of Popular Science Magazine's "10 Brilliant Scientists of 2006" in their October issue. "Most artificial-intelligence researchers face the gargantuan task of making computers think like humans...von Ahn works the other way around. He harnesses tens of thousands of people's reasoning skills for those rare yet important jobs that are too hard for computers. His strategy is to make the work seem like a game." CMU computer expert named one of 'Brilliant 10'
September 13, 2006: "A sure sign of brilliance is tricking others into having fun while unwittingly helping you do work... Luis von Ahn was recognized for achieving that feat Tuesday when the October issue of Popular Science hit newsstands, naming him one of its 5th annual 'Brilliant 10.'
